Is Your Child on the Path to Health?
1. Do at least 60 minutes of exercise (running, biking, basketball) four or more days each week?
2. Watch TV or play computer games less than two hours per day?
3. Do at least 30-60 minutes of “lifestyle” activity (active play, chores, climbing stairs) every day?
4. Eat five servings of fruit and vegetables every day?
5. Eat whole grain bread and cereal products every day?
6. Eat less than four servings of fats and oils (1 serving=2 tsp butter, 1 tsp oil) every day?
7. Eat one or fewer servings of concentrated sweets (soda, fruit “drinks” candy, cake, cookies) per day?
8. Eat only low or non-fat milk, yogurt and cheese?
9. Eat one or fewer fried foods each week?
If you answered YES to eight or more of these questions, your child is likely to be healthy and move into adulthood with habits that will enable him or her to live a healthy life.
Try to make changes in the habits where the answer was NO. The changes will benefit your child and he or she will thank you for it!
