Safe bicycling begins with a helmet! OPT for Fit Kids is now providing low cost bicycle helmets to children aged 2 to 17 years of age in Butte County through the Butte County Child Abuse Prevention Council’s Helmet Bank. This program reaches out to families that are unable to purchase a helmet with their resources and aims to improve bicycle safety for children. Children and parents will be instructed on proper helmet fitting and bicycling safety tips to reduce the chance of accidents. Chico bicycle maps are also available free of charge.

Based out of the Center for Nutrition and Activity Promotion (CNAP), OPT for Fit Kids is a community based program that promotes:

  • Importance of healthy eating at every age
  • Adopting positive lifestyle behaviors
  • Physical activity
